Then again, Chuck didn't anticipate Donald J Trump shanghaiing the GOP with Aryan delusions of Make America Great Again aka Make America White Again. Just as LBJ underestimated the hate oozing from southern states when he declared after signing the Civil Rights Act, "We have lost the south for a generation." Chuck was blind to the seedy underbelly of the Tea Party wacko birds.
Then again the rise of Adolf err I mean Donald was not meteoric. The media for some strange reason has pandered to him for decades. Giving him regular interviews on "news" shows like Hardball and Fox and Friends.
Aside from the media sucking up to Trump. His rise in the GOP is the product of a deliberate Republican campaign of witch hunts, race baiting and fear created by Richard Nixon in 1968 to attract simplistic Peckerwoods who could easily be moved on emotion rather than reasoned intellectual ideals. Trump is not part of world wide rejection of establishments. He is part of a world wide movement based on Xenophobia, Neophobia and Blatant Racism.
The GOP had grown its base on the Guns, Gays and God platform on the surface but that was just the tip of the iceberg. Lurking under the water was the real GOP a GOP of Xenophobia, Neophobia and Blatant Racism. Now the Berg as flipped and the world can clearly see the GOP for what it really was.
You know the GOP was not always a bigoted hate fest. Sure they were always the party of the wealthy but for the most part until the beginning of the "Southern Strategy" they were at the forefront of Social Change at least the "Northern" Republicans were. So these current events are nothing more than a natural progression from the party of Abe, Teddy and Ike to the party of Reagan, Dole and The Bush clan to finally the party of Donald, Sarah and Deplorables.
Sorry Chuck but your coup d'etat has been superseded by a Beer Hall Putsch just hours before El Generalissimo (The Koch Brothers) could seize the reins of power. All those billions spent on front groups and the "grass roots" pissed straight down the commode.
