The Slave States of Old are now the Heart and Soul of the modern GOP

The Slave states of 1863: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas

The Heart and Soul of the GOP Base in: 2015: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas

99 times out a 100 a racist Republican will either point out, the Klu Klux Klan was formed by Democrats or that Abraham Lincoln was a Republican or that Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican.

All very true facts but, either because they choose to ignore or they just can not get the gears to mesh on the fact that the Southern Democrats and the Slave States of Old started to change in 1954 with Hernandez v. Texas, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Mexican Americans and all other racial groups in the United States are entitled to equal protection under the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Then Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kans. and in Bolling v. Sharpe, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against the "separate but equal" doctrine, overturning Plessy v. Ferguson and saying that segregation of public schools is unconstitutional. May 1954 was to paraphrase Joe Biden, "A Big Fucking Deal" for all people of color.

Then came the came 1964 and 1965 and The Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act.

The Civil Rights Act was introduced by a Northern Democrat Emanuel Celler (D–NY) and signed in to law by another Democrat Lyndon Baines Johnson.

The vote in the House went as follows:

Southern Democrats: 7–87 (7–93%)
Southern Republicans: 0–10 (0–100%)
Northern Democrats: 145–9 (94–6%)
Northern Republicans: 138–24 (85–15%)

The Senate vote was:

Southern Democrats: 1–20 (5–95%)
Southern Republicans: 0–1 (0–100%)
Northern Democrats: 45–1 (98–2%)
Northern Republicans: 27–5 (84–16%)

Out of a possible 128 votes only 8 Congressman from the South voted for the Civil Rights Act. Today the GOP base are those same states that were against the Civil Rights Act. Johnson told Ted Sorensen, "We have lost the South for a generation."

On May 26, 1965 the Senate passed the Voting Rights Act of 1965 by a 77-19 vote (Democrats 47-16, Republicans 30-2) only Senators representing Southern states voted against it. Then July 9th of the same year the House passed the Voting Rights Act by a 333-85 vote (Democrats 221-61, Republicans 112-24) 44 Representatives out of a total of 135 from the South voted from it.

LBJ severely underestimated the HATE coming from the RED STATES. The pathetic part about the Great American NeoCon? After two generations they try to play off their bigotry and fear of minorities with "Martin Luther King was a Republican." and "Lincoln Freed the slaves" and "Ike started the civil rights movement in the 50's" again true statements but in reality even the most hardcore uninformed Fox viewer knows that GOP paragons Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Dwight David Eisenhower and Martin Luther King would have nothing to do with today's GOP.

Then came Richard Nixon's Southern Strategy that appealed to regional racial tensions and history of segregation in the South. Say it with me: Dixiecrat. Everyone with an IQ above 65 knows that the GOP of today are the Southern Democrats of old. As a matter of a fact, as you read this post Ike, Abe, Teddy and Martin are kicking the dog crap out of Reagan, Nixon and Goldwater for ruining their beloved GOP. Well actually not Reagan. He's burning in Hell.

To sum it all up. After the spanking of 2012 the GOP said it had to change its image. To do that they would have to change its party platform. If the GOP changed its party platform it would loose its base.

It is the GOP base that is Anti Immigrant, Anti Woman's Rights, Anti Civil Rights, Anti LGBT Rights and Xenophobic. So until the GOP base changes and we all know that will never happen, the GOP is doomed to gerrymandering, voter fraud, voter intimidation and voting rights suppression to win elections.

Riddle Me This:

Besides the modern Grand Old Party and Vlad Putin's United Russia Party. What other party had a platform of Anti Immigration, Anti Woman's Rights, Anti Civil Rights, Anti LGBT Rights and Xenophobia?

I can all most recall their name. I know they were in Germany in the 1930s and 40s.

Dang! What was their name? I know it rhymed with Stasi.

Maybe a Republican can help me out here. Any takers?
